The Katherine Tyra Branch Library at Bear Creek, located on the west side of Harris County, is one of 27 branches of Harris County Public Library. Our George & Barbara Bush Family Place play area, which opened in September 2024, offers a bright and welcoming space for families to gather and play with toys specifically chosen to support early childhood development and encourage interaction between parents/caregivers and their children. The area is also home to our very popular toddler-sized drawing table and our growing parenting collection, which includes books and resources for caregivers in both English and Spanish. Becoming a Family Place Library has transformed the children's area into a hub for play-based learning and community building, especially after our busy story times!

In addition to weekly story times, we offer two Family Place Workshop series a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. These workshops offer families in the Bear Creek community an opportunity to play together and connect with other families, the library, and resource professionals in fields relevant to early childhood.
