When you walk into the West Babylon Public Library, you don’t need to ask where the Children’s Room is; just follow the sounds of laughter, giggles, conversations and babbles, and falling Lego towers.
Parents, caregivers, grandparents, babysitters come to meet friends and attend programs. Social connections and new friendships are made every day; many that stay throughout elementary school. We foster a love for learning, reading, discovery, socialization, kindness and compassion.
Our room is welcoming, bright and colorful; musical instruments, sensory toys for infants and toddlers are in labeled bins in the play area; as well as a kitchen, dollhouse, imaginative play toys, puzzles and tree clubhouse with comfy mats and seats. A craft cart provides coloring and learning activities, sticker crafts, safety scissors and glue sticks.
The Parent Collection, board & picture books surround our family play space, making browsing easier for parents. Board Books are on low shelving for little hands to pull out and explore. There is a table and chairs and plenty of comfortable seating. A colorful bulletin board display sits between two large windows that fill our room with the morning sun. A display slatwall houses informational resources for families in our community.
Walk towards the back of the room and you see the garden area with a reading nook and a beautiful view of our garden, which is bursting with flowers and vegetables come spring. Once the weather gets warmer, our outdoor space has a water table, Caterpillar Tunnel on artificial grass mats, and tables with umbrellas to enjoy snacks and lunches.
We provide current resources for families in our community, including education, health & wellness, information on local schools, daycare centers, and developmental intervention centers.
Our Library has become the stepping stone for little ones to gain those crucial social skills and connections needed as they grow and develop into toddlers and school age learners. We support every stage of growth and parenting from infancy to the teenage years.
