Galena Park Branch Library's George and Barbara Bush Foundation Family Place had 9,174 visitors in 2025. Our Family Place area is open year-round and stocked with take-home resource materials, a circulating collection of Parenting books in English and Spanish, and a toy and play area with infant toys, board books, manipulatives, blocks, dramatic play toys, and puzzles.
We provide two Family Place Workshops, Play and Learn in the Spring and the Fall. We continue to recruit families with small children to join our reading challenge, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. Our weekly story time, "Stories Y Cuentos," provides children and their caretakers with quality literature, early literacy skills, and interactive playtime. In the summer, we invite the CollabLab bus, a mobile play area focusing on STEAM learning through toys and demonstrations. Another recent partnership is with Brain Builders, a free, in-person program that creates the opportunity for caregivers of children ages 3 and under to connect, share, and take away brain-building tips for a growing infant and toddler.
