As patrons walk into the Children’s Room, they are greeted by a smiling Children’s Librarian, who is ready to help in any way they can. Our Early Childhood Space is located within the Picture Book area for easy access to age appropriate books and contains manipulative toys, a train and Lego table, early childhood puzzles, a kitchen and doll house for dramatic play, a crayon iPad kiosk, a supermarket for an early introduction to numbers and comfortable furniture. You will often see parents, grandparents and caregivers sharing books and playing with their little ones. We feature a photo wall highlighting our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten participants and provide parenting- literature and brochures and information about upcoming community and family events for patrons to take home. Patrons will also find age appropriate bibliographies throughout the Children's Room and Book Bundles highlighting different genres and topics to take home with them. Just outside the Children's Room, you will find a beautiful tropical fish tank featuring many different species of fish. We have created Informational Photo Plaques for each fish in the tank that includes species classification and information so our patrons can easily identify the inhabitants of the tank.
The Children’s Room of our Family Place Library can be described as the heart of the West Babylon Public Library. Every day you will see families enjoying all that we offer in our Early Childhood Space. Families may arrive as strangers, but, by the end of their visit, leave as friends and often make plans to meet in one of our many Library programs. Valuable relationships are formed with the Library, and with other patrons. It is common to overhear patrons telling one another how our Library is one of their favorite places, beautifully maintained and staffed with so many warm and helpful Children’s Librarians and staff members. Those two words, “warm” and “helpful” beautifully describe our successful Family Place Library.
