The Pottsville Free Public Library provides unique services and resources to the local community. These include programs for youth ages one to 17 that encourage and foster literacy and STEM education, including the library’s new Girls Who Code Program.
The caregivers who have attended Family Place in the past greatly appreciate being able to meet and talk with the local experts, and gain access to the services they provide. In Addition to providing local childhood experts for caregivers to meet with through the Family Place program, a major annual highlight is the Lunch at the Library program. By taking part in a state sponsored summer lunch program, the library is able to offer meals to children and teens.
The library also continues to participate in the Turning Outward Initiative. Through this initiative, the library works with other community agencies, as well as individuals, to reach goals concerning the improvement of our community. Outcomes of this include working with the local homeless shelter to improve library services for its clients, new programs for teens and families, collaborating with the local artistic community to develop programming, working with other nonprofits to promote their services and get volunteers involved, and working with young adult-oriented agencies in the community.
