Our Family Place area is extremely well used by young children and their parents/caregivers. They all know that this space is designed especially for them, and they make the most of it. Children's imaginations are allowed to flourish, whether it's from "making meals" with our play food in our play kitchen; playing with puzzles, blocks, dolls, push-pull toys and other manipulatives; listening to books being read to them (and vice-versa); and generally just having great family together time!
Our five-week Parent-Child Workshops, which are held twice per year, further add to the Family Place experience for both children and parents/caregivers. Children get to play with an even wider variety of toys, and their parents/caregivers are able to learn from various resource specialists who come to each workshop and are available to present information and answer any questions they may have about child health/development in general, or address specific problems parents may be experiencing with their children.
The Montebello Library has a huge amount of information to help parents, in various formats, including great parenting books, pamphlets and fliers; board books, picture books --- including our new and growing VOX read-along book collection --- DVD's, CD's; parenting magazines (and magazines for young children); AWE computers, and online programs such as ReadyRosie and Vroom, which we actively promote with our Family Place parents.
