The Lindenhurst Library is a Family Place library located in Lindenhurst, NY. Our playspace has recently been expanded to create a fun and welcoming space for children and their parents to play, learn, sing, read, write and spend quality time together. The space is filled with toys, books and art material that encourage quality interactive play. Recent additions to our playspace include iPads with developmentally appropriate early literacy apps, dramatic play items and an art desk.

Our library not only provides children with an opportunity to learn, it also provides parents with a location that is fun and educational. Brochures are available to connect parents with information on child development, local agencies, community and educational resources and library offerings. Recently added to our resources for early literacy includes the Starling, a wearable device that counts the amount of words your baby hears from you and the world around them. The goal of the Starling is to help drive home the importance of talking and reading to your young child early and often! Librarians introduce the Starlings to patrons in storytime sessions and other early childhood programs.

In addition to being a place to learn, the library is also a place to meet new friends and have fun. Our 5-session parent childhood workshop includes a community resource professional that will talk one-on-one with parents on topics such as nutrition, understanding toddlers development, the importance of music and reading, etc. A variety of other classes are offered for our very young patrons as well. Librarian and other professionals run storytime sessions, art classes, music classes, STEM classes, sign language classes and more.

As we watch our patrons grow from babies attending our many classes or just enjoying a playful day in our library, to adults attending our 3D print classes or cooking and art classes, we are hopeful that we have succeeded in creating not only lifelong learners but also lifelong library users.
