Here is a recent piece that the City of Bryan did on Mounce Library’s winter Play2Learn program (we call our Parent/Child Workshop "Play2Learn"): https://www.facebook.com/CityofBryan/videos/10155270153246367/ and it talks about the importance of the Family Place Parent/ Child workshops. We've noticed that at the Play2Learn sessions, various resource professionals who may not have been aware of each other's programs make important connections leading to future collaboration! We have seen firsthand an increase of parents talking to their children with richer targeted vocabularies while playing with them. Even in our Play-Scape area (the regular Family Place play area with the Parenting Collection) we have seen an increase of parents playing "pretend" games and having wonderful conversations with their children. The City of Bryan is over Mounce Library and they have seen that the library is an important place for family development and family support. One of our city council members is part of the National League of Cities and he plans on working together with us to have Mounce Library’s Family Place program be a part of our city’s work with the National League of Cities. The Family Place program has demonstrated to our community that the library is more than just a warehouse for books. The community recognizes that the library is a vital part of our community and a unifying force.
