The Central Islip Public Library has created a warm and welcoming space for preschool children and their parents. From a variety of enriching programs tailored for children starting at birth, to a well-kept and up-to-date Parents' Collection, we constantly strive to keep up with the needs of our parents and children. We have a special toddler area filled with age-appropriate books, toys and a Krayon Kiosk iPad station where children can play age-appropriate apps. Through our years as a Family Place Library, we have seen the growth of our early childhood audience, and we have had several families grow up with us from birth until they graduate to the Young Adult Department. Because of this, we have been able to stress the importance of literacy from an early age to our families, and we have had several parents credit their child's early love of reading for their academic success. In recent times, our services have had to evolve a bit to change due to the Covid situation. We have started new services such as Grab & Go Craft Kits, Grab & Go Family Cooking Kits, Storytime To Go Bags, and other take home activities since many of our parents of young children are still opting to limit their socialization.
