It is our on-going project to create a children's area that inspires imagination and learning. Family Place program, grant, and training came at just the right time for us. With the grant, we were able to purchase the materials to create a colorful corner area with dolls, trucks, puzzles, blocks, puppets, and other instruments of play. In addition to the Family Place Workshop (which we call “Little Pirates Playtime” since we live at the coast!) we now hold toddler play sessions that include songs, crafts, and sensory activities. This has been a wonderful way to build a bridge with our young families. The sessions are an excellent opportunity for the little ones to learn how to play with others, for shy children to become acclimated to being in the public, and for parents to meet other moms and dads who are going through the same things. Being a part of the Family Place program has helped us send the message that families are welcome in our library and encouraged to play and learn together!
