We offer librarian-led early literacy, STEM, art, math and baby programs throughout the year. We also offer a variety of librarian led programs for babies and toddlers that aide them in their development, such as with their fine motor skills, gross motor skills, cognitive and language development.  Various scavenger hunts throughout the year kept the children busy as well. We offer outdoor programming in a our Reading Garden, whether it is a nature storytime, nature scavenger hunt, playtime or outdoor sensory play.  In addition, we visited our preschoolers that were going into Kindergarten, in person, over the summer at the elementary schools. We also visited our younger patrons at Allen Park in Farmingdale, (part of the Town of Oyster Bay summer program) over the summer for literacy and music activities.   We circulated board and lawn games for patron only use. We circulated our new tonie boxies and extensive tonie character collection.  We made available more selections for our Storytime-to-Go bags and Reading Leveled Tote bags that patrons could grab and go. We have updated our Discovery backpacks which circulate for our baby and toddler patrons, they foster literacy and contain books, educational activities and a QR code to online educational websites and activities on specific themes.  The themed packs that are new are dinosaurs, farm animals, colors and shapes, music, and insects. Our playroom is fully up and running now, it was difficult during the pandemic not having the playroom fully functional and it is great to see it back and better.  The playroom is used daily by our many families that come in with their babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.  The train table, play kitchen and fish tank are some of the kids favorites.  We feel that through the many programs, play opportunities, access to materials we offer we foster a love for literacy as well as help our youngest patrons in their development.  We want to make babies and toddlers first experience in libraries a fun, educational and happy one.
