Storytimes are available for children 3 months through five years. These story times include Baby Time, Toddler Time, Early Literacy Story Time, and Blended Story Time.  Storytimes provide developmentally appropriate activities to develop early literacy concepts, social emotional learning, and STEAM related concepts. Those who attend storytime or visit the library have the option to sign up for weekly emails.  The email is in the format of an Early Education Newsletter and informs parents of upcoming Early Childhood events and provides information to support families with Early Literacy and Early Childhood Education. The Blended Story Time provides families with children of mixed ages a story time they can attend together. Each month we provide 4 to 6 Early Childhood Stations. These stations include activities to work on Early Literacy, STEAM related concepts, or Social Emotional Learning activities. Music and Movement is a program that meets two times each month to allow our young patrons the opportunity to strengthen their physical development, listening & social development skills all while having fun dancing .  Crafts and art exploration are supported in  our Curiosity Cart and Crafternoon programs. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is available through the Hewitt Public Library and includes manipulatives for parents to work with their children on Math skills as well as Early Literacy skills.   Our library welcomes families by providing a nurturing environment for early literacy development. We desire to enlighten, inform, and support our parents by recognizing their significant role as their child’s first teacher. Our Family Place Library features: A children’s area designed for active parent/child engagement as they explore board books, picture books, blocks, toys, and manipulatives. We provide these “tools” to foster purposeful play, exploration, and creativity. A parenting collection of books and other materials with easy accessibility, is located close to our children’s area. Programming is designed to inspire our children and to ensure that they enter school ready and able to learn. “1,2,3 Come Play with Me,” a Five Week Parent/Child Workshop Series, which is offered in the Spring and Fall, for children ages one through three and their parents or caregivers. This program provides a setting of developmentally appropriate toys, books, and hands-on activities, in an open-ended venue where the children are free to choose what appeals to them. The program promotes the importance of play in childhood development. This climate encourages families to spend time together and assists them in cultivating friendships with other families. These workshops feature different early childhood topics each week, highlighted by Community Resource Professionals who share their expertise with the families. The workshops also provide families with valuable community support, since they are given the opportunity to visit one-on-one with early childhood specialists in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
